All New 2014 VW Microbus
I don’t know about anyone reading this blog but I for one am extremely pleased to welcome back to the UK market a stunningly beautiful iconic vehicle from a lost generation, VW have reached down into the depths of their history and breathed a new lease of life into the VW Microbus. Based most likely on the Passat floor plan MQB chassis, it should surface for retail sale sometime in the latter end of 2013.
Now although they seemed to have lost direction when placing the engine in it (it’s in the front and not the back) we REALLY REALLY like what we see so far, its clean modern lines coexisting alongside that loaf of bread shape we all came to love and cherish. This new version isn’t exactly retro though being the same size as a current VW Eurovan in proportion, VW in their infinite wisdom have come out and said they didn’t want to just copy the old version but rather redesign a classic vehicle with a modern day feel and look whilst still clinging to its prestigious heritage. Some will love the new one while I expect others will reflect on the old and wonder why they didn’t carry over the round headlights of the original bus?
We expect as well as having the 2.0l Turbo charged petrol engine there will be a variety of diesel options on offer too. Now imagine this scenario, you and some mates rolling around the country with your surfboards loaded on top of your stunning VW Microbus AND getting an MPG well into the high 30’s or even low 40’s.
Moving to the interior the new Microbus will benefit for 3 rows of seating (which we suspect will reflect the original buses seating arrangement) and a fully equipped entertainment centre.
VW find themselves coasting along on the crest of a wave right now so I wouldn’t be hardly surprised to find them popping up soon in the van market with something of a similar nature to this stunning concept vehicle.
VW: Its may be time you took the Routan that’s based on the Chrysler and make way for the new kid on the beach….. The all new and improved VW Microbus!!
