Apple confirms that iOS may be coming to a car near you!
Monday was the day for the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) and it brought some news that would have pricked most people’s ears. Apple gave the world confirmation that it will be working closely to several car manufacturers in bringing its iOS to the forefront.
Honda, Nissan, Chevy, Kia, Volvo, Acura, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Infiniti, Hyundai and Jaguar will begin to include Apples iOS in 2014 Model Year cars. Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services made the confirmation on behalf of Apple which has had a lot of speculation since earlier in the year when in-car presence was mentioned as a priority.
iOS stands for ‘In The Car’ which isn’t the most inventive name imaginable but then hey, nor is i-Phone and look how successful that has been for Apple. We don’t know a lot about iOS yet but what we do know is that it will make heavy use of the Siri voice recognition to make sure that drivers aren’t getting too distracted. If Apple get what they want out of this new exploration it should have users cars playing music, reading messages and emails out loud and possible displaying maps, all helped with the cars touch screen.
I for one have been waiting for Apple to make their products a little bit more compatible in cars so I look forward to passing some more details on when they are announced!
