The New BMW 5 Series - Test Drive With Jake Forster-Caskey
Rivervale are proud to be the official vehicle leasing partner for Charlton Athletic football club and the Charlton Athletic Community trust since 2001. We decided to bring the world of football and cars together so ran a competition to offer a Charlton fan the opportunity to go on a test drive with a current player…
Entering the competition was easy! All you needed to do was tell us why you deserved to win. From the entries, we received we chose Phillip as our winner, who entered the following poem.
Phillips Winning Entry
Phillip's poetic competition entry ...
A Charlton fan since '56,
I've seen many players with all their tricks,
Just one thing I fail to get,
Is why we find it so hard, to hit the back of the net.
As a civilian I faced my fears,
And supported our troops in Iraq for 2 years,
Now back in the UK from the Middle East,
I'd love a test drive with a Charlton Player in a Rivervale Beast.
We need to give our all and show no fear,
And may have to wait until next year,
But we need to support the Team, Board and all,
Then we'll reach the Chamionship and have a ball.
Here’s what happened when Phillip went for a test drive with Charlton Athletic player Jake Forster-Caskey …
The car we selected for the test drive was the new BMW 5 Series saloon, winner of the WHATCAR? Overall Car of the Year 2017. This seventh generation model is faster, lighter, longer, and wider than the previous version and much more intelligent too. The new 5 series is packed full of the latest technology with semi-autonomous driving capabilities and clever safety features, all without forgetting the luxury touches you would expect.
Semi- Autonomous Driving in the new BMW 5 Series
Semi- autonomous driving is part of Driving Assistant Plus allowing automated driving in scenarios such as traffic jams, when changing lanes or in slow moving traffic. The system uses sensors, cameras, ultrasound, and radars to monitor the surrounding area. The functions of features such as Active Cruise Control, Steering Assist and Lane Control Assist are then able to keep a safe distance between you and the car in front so you can take your feet can take a break from the pedals.
The BMW Display Key
This is like no ordinary key, it connects you to your vehicle even when you are not close by. From the display on the key you can check fuel levels, see where you parked, set the temperature and double check you really did lock the doors! All very handy, but the truly impressive feature of this special key is that it can park for you, while you are outside the vehicle, by remote control!
With Gesture Control, you can communicate your needs to your car with only a wave of the hand. Twirling your fingers will increase or decrease the volume, reject a phone call with a swipe, answer one with a point and even programme your cars response to pointing two fingers at the screen so you can choose to change the radio station, or return to the home screen, whichever function you would like.
As well as these impressive features the BMW 5 Series can also include Head-up Display, a wireless charging zone, surround view parking cameras.
