The Canadian Grand Prix
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel stormed to victory in a dominant performance in Montreal and becomes the first driver to win 3 races this season. Fernando Alonso finished in second place after a fascinating battle with Lewis Hamilton for the position - Hamilton himself eventually taking third.
Alonso was brilliant throughout and, if he had started higher up on the grid, Vettel may not have won by such a comfortable distance. Alonso is now 2nd in the championship, overtaking Lotus’s Kimi Raikkonen. The Finn had a disappointing race after finishing 9th, with Vettel’s Red Bull partner taking 4th place.
Jenson Button’s season seems to be going from bad to worse, after finishing a disappointing12th. After the race, Button admitted that McLaren are clutching at straws at the moment.
Although this was probably one of the most exciting races of the season, it will be unfortunately be marred by the death of a track marshal following an incident which occurred when removing the stricken Sauber of Esteban Gutierrez.
All the drivers had their say, all offering their condolences after such a tragic event; Alonso tweeted saying “Today there is nothing to celebrate. Terrible news arrives with the death of a marshal this race. Very sad. RIP.”
Vettel is slowly edging away from his competitors firmly in 1st place, Alonso lies in second, 36 points behind Vettel while Lotus driver Raikkonen is 8 points behind Alonso in third. British driver Lewis Hamilton is in 4th, with other Britt Jenson Button lies disappointingly all the way down in 10th place.
The next race will be held at Silverstone from Friday the 28th of June to Sunday the 30th of June.
