Car News from the Consumer Electronics Show
The CES show provides a peek at the newest gadgets around, some of them useful some just bizarre! From bracelets that turn into flying camera drones to a 65” tablet – do we really need a tablet that big?!. Here at Rivervale car Leasing we took a look at the latest car news…….
The big talk of the show was the Mercedes F 015 Luxury in Motion which showed the future of cars when we all go driverless. Mercedes believe that as cars become autonomous the interior will begin to look more and more like our living rooms and the design reflected this. The front seats swivel to allow all passengers of the car to face each other. Extended sense laser technology means the car and its surroundings are constantly monitored, so this Mercedes can drop you off at your location and then park itself. The F 015 is also highly aware of pedestrians, if it comes across a pedestrian ready to cross the road the area is scanned to make sure it is safe, a virtual crosswalk is projected onto the road and there is even a verbal prompt ‘please go ahead’ to guide the pedestrian across the road. To add to the luxury in motion is an environmentally friendly F-Cell plug in hybrid system that can travel 684 miles on a single charge!
For other manufacturers connecting your car and phone were the main priority as Volkswagen announced their 2015 models will have dashboards compatible with Android Auto and CarPlay in their second generation infotainment system MIB II. Hyundai and Audi have also announced both Android and Apple compatible systems are on the way. Pioneer have offered the perfect solution to those who would like a connected car without having to buy a new one! Their aftermarket Android Auto systems will start at £699.99 and will connect to Android Auto and CarPlay, all will have a 7” screen and will allow access to GPS, apps, help you make handsfree calls and can even pause and rewind DAB radio for you!
We all know how annoying it is when everybody in the car wants to listen to something different, many a road trip can be ruined with fights over the radio station. Now there is a perfect solution courtesy of Harman who have created individual sound zones. 4 people can listen to different music and make phone calls without any sound interference from those around them. The system uses speakers in the headrests and a special bandwidth to create singular sound areas .
BMW showed off their 360 degree collision avoidance that uses radars and camera to automatically brake if the driver is about to collide. This system will respond to any type of collisions from pedestrians to other cars and even walls when parking!
A massive announcement at the CES came from Toyota – they will be sharing 5,680 patented technologies related to hydrogen fuel cells royalty free. This is likely to drastically increase the amount of advancement in fuel cell technology so in the future hydrogen vehicles may be a real environmentally friendly alternative to electric vehicles.
