Electric Taxis hit the London Streets!
Labour has recently admitted they made the wrong decision when they encouraged a swap from petrol to diesel, made an attractive change due to lowered car tax for diesel vehicles. What they did get right was the idea of moving away from vehicles that produce CO2 - what they didn’t realise was the health risks of diesel cars that produce more NO2. It is thought that around 29,000 deaths could happen as a result of air pollution every year, so is this a further signal that we really all need to start thinking electric?
One group of drivers who believe electric is best are the makers of Metrocab as the first ever electric taxi’s hit the London streets on trial.
The electric black cab has been in development for 10 years and has been designed and built right here in Britain. Inside the cab can comfortably seat 7 people and offers a great view of the London skies with a panoramic glass roof. There are also USB charging points and a colour TV display to provide the passenger with all they may need on their journey.
In terms of environmental impact the new Metrocab will offer 75 mpg, 75% less CO2, a range of around 560km and could save the average London Taxi driver around £20-£40 per day.
The Metrocab is powered by two electric motors and a small petrol engine together with a generator is used to recharge the battery pack and extend range. The Metrocab can operate on zero emissions only as well, this gives a shorter range of 50 miles.
The styling has been kept in line with the iconic look of the Black Cab and manufacturers say there will be no price premium over the existing Black Cabs which cost around £33,000.
Hopefully these Metrocabs will be the answer to the dilemma over how to power our vehicles – if not I think I have found the answer ………..
If you would like to try an electric vehicle but don’t want to commit to paying outright for one why not try leasing an electric vehicle for a few years and see if it’s for you ………….
