The Ford Edge will soon be in a showroom near you.
The Edge was initially shown as a concept car back in 2013. It has since been produced and is a top seller for Ford in the US. Due to its success the Edge is now coming to the UK!
By spring this year the UK version of the Edge will be available with a choice of a 2.0 litre diesel engine, 177 bhp with a 6 speed manual gear box or a 2.0 litre diesel engine, 207 bhp with an automatic 6 speed gearbox. Both of these engines have emissions of 149g/km and are expected to travel 48.7 mpg. Colour options will use Ford’s current range, with a choice of; Bronze Fire, Too Good To Be Blue, Electric Spice, Kona Blue, Ingot Silver, Magnetic, Oxford White, Race Red, Shadow Black and White Platinum.
The Edge is a luxury SUV so will sit above the Kuga and Ecosport in Fords current SUV range. There will be a Sport and Titanium trim on offer and as expected the Ford Edge is packed full of the latest technology.
Ford's Adaptive Steering aims to make driving as effortless as possible at any speed. At low speeds steering will be adapted so fewer turns of the wheel are needed to reach full lock. At higher speeds steering will tighten up giving the driver rock solid handling.
On winding roads Sports Mode can be selected by the driver so fewer turns are needed to negotiate each bend.

Drivers now never need to take their hands off the wheel as intuitive voice controls can be used to control your phone, the music, sat nav, or climate control. Or, if you prefer, there is still the option to use the 8” colour touch screen.
Voice controls can even respond to phrases such as ‘I’m hungry’ and display a list of nearby restaurants for you!
Ford Emergency Assistance will keep you safe by automatically calling the emergency services should an accident occur.
Intelligent all-wheel drive
Those in the Ford Edge will not have to give a second thought to driving conditions. Whether it’s icy, wet or rough terrain intelligent all-wheel drive will respond and adapt to make your journey as smooth as possible.
Front Wide View Camera – a split screen image of the surrounding area can be sent to the Edge’s multi-function display. This means vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians approaching from either side of the car can be seen. It’s also useful for navigating out of narrow parking spaces and can be used to join the flow of traffic at a busy junction when your view may be obstructed.
Blind Spot Monitoring – RADAR sensors are used to scan the areas in your blind spot, if there is another vehicle present an orange light will illuminate on the corresponding wing mirror to let you know. Very handy when changing lanes on a busy motorway.
Cross Traffic Alert – this alert detects other vehicles when you are reversing out of a space. If there is another vehicle approaching an audible warning sound and the light on the corresponding wing mirror will illuminate letting you know which direction the vehicle is approaching from.
Stress free parking – active park assist will steer you automatically when you require a parallel or perpendicular park, you can also use park assist to help you out of those tricky spaces. The side parking aid will be there to warn you of any lateral obstructions. Parking sensors help you accurately judge the distance between the Edge and another object in front or behind. As you approach an object audible warnings will sound that will intensify the closer the Edge and the object come.
Hands Free Tailgate – we have all done it… the strange dance in the middle of the car park when our hand are full of shopping and we need to get the boot open. Well, say goodbye to peculiar little move - the Edge has a hands free tailgate! As long as you have the keyfob on you the edge will sense you are there and all you need to do is wave your foot under the rear bumper – much more dignified!
Pre Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection – if there are any people in the road or who could potentially cross your path the driver will be warned … if the driver fails to respond the brakes will be applied for you. This helps reduce the severity of a frontal crash and may even eliminate collision in some cases.
The Ford Edge offers unique protection for rear passengers. The two rear outer seats have Ford’s unique Rear Inflatable Seatbelt. If the car is involved in a crash, these seatbelts can inflate meaning the force of the belt is spread over an area that is 5 times larger than a usual seatbelt over the body. This reduces injury to the chest by reducing pressure applied.
Just to make your driving experience as perfect as possible Ford have also included Active Noise Control on the new edge. This clever technology will silence unwanted noises in the cabin. A control unit can separate sound you want to hear from those you don’t. It will then create white noise to cancel out the unwanted sounds making your journey as tranquil and peaceful as possible!
