Leasing News - Focus on Fiesta!
What were you doing back in 1976? It was the year of the heatwave, there were national water shortages and inflation had reached 27%. Dancing Queen and Bohemian Rhapsody were the best-selling singles, Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky hit the screens and the first commercial Concorde flight went up. The Average wage was £72 per week and there were 17 million fewer cars on the road………….it was also the year the Ford Fiesta was born!
Development for the Ford Fiesta began in 1973 with the working name Bobcat, Henry Ford II decided upon the name fiesta as he liked the alliteration and sense of fun! Back in the day a brand new Fiesta would set you back £1,856 and was seen as Ford’s first globally successful front wheel drive. Now there is a new Fiesta made every 86 seconds and over 4 million of us here in Britain own one.
Here in the UK the Fiesta has overtaken the Escort as the most popular car of all time, ending the Escorts 14 year reign at the top. The Ford Fiesta has been the most popular car for the past 4 years and every month last year the Fiesta was the top selling car, so it’s no wonder the Fiesta is now officially the best-selling car in Britain. It seems us Brits love Ford's and Vauxhall's as between these manufacturers they make up 7 out of 10 of the best-selling cars …….let’s take a look at the top 10 and how many vehicles they have sold so far…….
- Ford Fiesta – 4,132,294
- Ford Escort – 4,105,192
- Vauxhall Astra – 2,845,357
- Ford Cortina – 2,589,351
- Vauxhall Corsa – 1,829,581
- Vauxhall Cavalier – 1,816,529
- Volkswagen Golf – 1,813,373
- Ford Focus – 1,769,687
- Original Mini – 1,581,887
- Metro – 1,498,169
With the Escort now out of production the Astra has got a long way to go to knock the Fiesta off the top spot. The Fiesta just keeps going from strength to strength in 2014 there is a fuel efficient 1.0 EcoBoost engine producing 65.7 mpg, automatic headlights, quickclear windscreen system and integrated Sat-Nav so you never get lost! You can also keep safe with Home Safe Headlights that will stay on for 30 seconds when you lock the doors to light the way to your front door. The FordSYNC system will help you keep your hands on the wheel by making and receiving calls using voice control as well as reading out loud your text messages for you. You can also play music from your phone via Bluetooth or from a USB, MP3 or iPod. The MyKey system lets you set maximum speed limits and seat belt reminders before you lend your car to anyone and don’t worry the wing mirrors will protect themselves by folding in when you lock your car. What more could you want?!
