Ford release images of the new Ford S-Max
The new Ford S-Max is set to be based on a concept car that will make its first appearance at the upcoming 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show on 10th September. Ford has described the new S-Max Concept as a sport activity vehicle that will take the ethos of the current S-Max "to new levels".
The concept car will show it has a similar look to the current model but is much sleeker, with more dramatic lines, curves and angles. As well as its overall sportier appearance it gains Ford’s Aston Martin-like front grille that is common throughout their latest family look.
A "feature line" running along the side of the car ends in a vent above the front wheel, while a windscreen comes with panoramic sunroof sweeps into the roof to create an unbroken sweep of glass.
Some of the concept car’s details are unlikely to feature on the next S-Max that is due to go sale in 2015. More practical door mirrors, handles and frames will be added, but the overall proportions and shape are likely to remain close to that of the concept vehicle.
The S-Max Concept’s interior mixes high quality materials such as ultra-soft leather, while the sculptured seats feature leather and carbon-fibre detailing.
The flexible seven-seat interior layout will be similar to the outgoing S-Max’s, with a central second row seat that folds down to create a large comfortable four-seater. The two rearmost seats can be lowered and raised "in a single action with minimum effort", Ford says.
High-tech features will include MyFord Touch, which provides in-cabin Wi-Fi to check your emails on the go as well as SYNC AppLink, which allows the driver to access smartphone apps using voice control.
