What Does the Colour of your Car Say About its Past?
When buying a used car there’s no way to know what has happened in its life before it ended up with you. The best way to ensure there are no deep dark secrets lurking in a potential new cars past is to check its history.
The HPI check began back in 1938 so they have become experts at finding out all there is to know about a vehicle. Over 80 different checks are performed on a vehicle to make sure you don’t get any surprises further down the road!
HPI have revealed some alarming figures; up to 41 cars are reported stolen every day, 1 in 5 cars have had their number plates changed, 1 in 20 cars show a mileage discrepancy and 760 cars checked have previously been written off by an insurance company. Scarily, even if you pay for your new-to-you car it may not be yours – HPI have revealed 1 in 4 vehicles they check still have outstanding finance. This means the vehicle is still owned by the finance company so even though you’ve paid your money, the finance company could come and take the car back at any time.
HPI have given us even more information by revealing the colour of car most likely and least likely to be stolen, have outstanding finance, have plates changed, a mileage discrepancy and have previously been written off.
The best way to make sure your car doesn’t have a shady past is to ensure it has had a vehicle history check. This is done as standard on all our approved used vehicles. If you want to be the only person in your cars history then perhaps leasing a car will be the best option for you!
