Do we need salesmen to sell cars?

Hyundai don’t think so with their new store! In Bluewater Kent sits the Hyundai Rockar store - a collaboration between Hyundai and digital retailer Rockar with a revolutionary way to sell cars. Car Salesmen have long had a bad reputation and are feared by many but in the Rockar store there are none to be found.

From the moment you enter the shop you can buy a car within 3 minutes and never be bothered by a salesman. There are only 3 models on display, as customers can choose and personalise their cars online. Even assistants in the shop are not from the motor trade, they are called ‘Angels’ and they will support you through the whole process. The angels have a background in retail and will have completed training to give them basic knowledge of Hyundai’s range of vehicles; there are also more female angels around the store in contrast to the male dominated motor trade at the moment.

So now while you are out doing your shopping you can pick up a new car as well!

The system can also cope with part exchanges, you can enter in the details of the car you want to trade and the best price will be given to you for it from GAP or Glass’s. This does rely on the customer being honest about the condition of the car they want to trade though! Finance agreements, service plans and small add ons such as mats are available via the online service, but so far things like GAP insurance or paint protection are not offered.

You can even book unaccompanied test drives at the Experience Centre, a separate store located in the car park, meaning the customer can just focus on experiencing driving the car rather than feeling pressured on the test drive. This is also where customers can drop off their car for services – they can drop off their car do a bit of shopping then pick up their serviced car before they head home!

And it seems to be working in just 3 weeks 3 cars were delivered and a massive 3,500 have walked through the doors of the first Hyundai Rockar store!

So could this be the end of the flashy showrooms and pushy salesmen?
