Does the Iveco Vision Concept Reveal the Future of Vans?
Here at Rivervale vehicle leasing we like to keep our eye on all the latest news, including what’s new in the world of vans …… This week we have found a peek into what the future of vans may look like with the Iveco Vision Concept………
The Iveco Vision Concept was revealed at the International Motor Show of Commercial Vehicles in Hanover and comes with loads of new technology and a really futuristic look …..
On the outside there are distinctive LED lights, an abundance of glass designed to give the driver maximum visibility and the see through A pillars add to the new fresh look.
Under the bonnet you will find a hybrid engine that makes this an environmentally friendly van. The hybrid powertrain consists of a four-cylinder 2.3 litre diesel engine and a battery stored behind the rear axle. This concept van will automatically switch driving force to provide the most efficient mode. Electric can be used for short journeys in urban areas and the engine can be used for longer journeys. This mix hopes to reduce C02 emissions by up to 25% and reduce fuel consumption. The photovoltaic roof can also generate battery power from sunlight, further improving its green credentials.
Inside is where this concept becomes really exciting, it’s packed with technology. The Iveco van can decide upon the weight it is carrying and automatically adjust tyre pressure and in the back there is the new Load Management System. This system will scan each package in, improving accuracy and also suggest the best possible place for the package during your journey. If packages should start sliding around bags are inflated to restrict movement - reducing damage to your load. In the cabin there is an integrated touchscreen tablet and a panoramic screen above the windscreen displaying the view from a parking camera so you can sneak into any space with ease.
The van is clearly ideal for delivery drivers, but is just a concept so we may not see it available commercially for a long time if ever….Iveco have said the technology in this van may be integrated over time in their current range. Until then here are the vans crowned most economical by auto express
Small van – Ford Transit Courier 1.5 TDCi - 74.3 mpg
Mid-sized panel van – Vauxhall Vivaro L1H1 CDTi 120 ecoFlex - 45.6 mpg
Large panel van – Fiat Ducato 30 Swb Diesel 2.3 Multijet Tecnico Van 130 - 44.1 mpg
