The 10 Most Annoying Driving Habits - How Many Are You Guilty Of?
Driving can be testing at the best of times with potholes to navigate around, cats to try and avoid as well as the great British weather to contend with - which could present you with a flood or snowstorm on the very same day! Even with all these obstacles to a peaceful journey, we make life even more difficult for each other by displaying some less than exemplary driving behaviours while behind the wheel.
The RAC has polled 2144 drivers to discover what the most annoying driving habits are on the road. 99% of respondents believed they themselves were courteous and considerate drivers, but only 4% believed they could drive for 30 minutes without experiencing thoughtless driving by others on the road. So, what are we doing that makes other road users see red? Below are the top 10 most annoying driving habits
- Not indicating clearly
- Middle lane hogging
- Failure to keep appropriate distance from the car in front
- Drivers who become noticeably angry
- Failure to park correctly between the lines
- Not saying thank you when let out of a junction
- Not decreasing speed for horses
- Driving above the speed limit
- Not giving cyclists enough space
- Unnecessary use of the horn
Simon Williams, RAC Spokesman had this to say about the results:
“The biggest example of ‘indicator confusion’ has to be at roundabouts. There seem to be different schools of thought on how to signal at roundabouts and very few that follow the rules set out in Rule 186 of the Highway Code. If more of us were to follow the indicating rules there would probably be fewer bumps at roundabouts.”
Below is a video from the Highway Code Website explaining the correct way to use a roundabout
Be honest, how many of you remember to ‘signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you intend to take’?
