This is an important car for Alfa Romeo, it will be the first new mainstream car produced since 2010. The Guila will fit into the compact executive car segment alongside rivals such as the Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4 and Jaguar XE. The high performance model was unveiled first as a 3.0 litre V6 Turbo 4WD. 4 Cylinder diesel and petrol engines are expected to be confirmed any day now that Alfa Romeo are hoping will entice Ford and Vauxhall buyers to try something new.
Fiat 124 Spider

Fiat are taking full advantage of the succesful recipe used to make the MX-5 in their partnership with Mazda. This 2 seater roadster is oozing retro appeal and is an updated version of the 1966 design Spider that was in production from 1996-1982. Until the Abarth version arrives in 2017 the engine will be the 140hp 1.4 litre already seen in many other Fiat models. As the sun starts to shine we are sure the Fiat Spider’s cute Italian styling will prove a big hit.

The car for all seasons, which is handy here in the UK as we can have all the seasons in the very same day! The Range Rover Evoque has been a massive success with over 160 International Awards already collected, the only thing left to do was take the roof off! This doesn’t mean you lose the capabilities of the hard top Evoque though. The convertible is packed full of innovative off-road technologies. The Z folding roof on the Convertible Evoque will operate at speeds of up to 30 mph, so when those unpredictable summer rain showers descend you won’t be left open to the elements for too long! If you aren’t a fan of the Phoenix Orange paintwork seen in most promotional pictures there are 12 other colours to choose from including; Kaikora Stone, Firenze Red, Santorini Black and Fuji White. We can already tell from the amount of pre-orders we have received here at Rivervale, the Evoque convertible is going to be a big hit.

The Tipo name is returning to the UK after is disappeared sometime in the 90’s. It’s coming back with a brave and bold plan to rival The VW Golf and Ford Focus. The Tipo will be available in a hatchback or estate version and Fiat says the Tipo is a ‘skills, no frills’ model. Full pricing details have not yet been revealed but UK bosses have announced pricing will ‘astonish the market’. So, along with a budget price to woo customers the Tipo will have a choice of 1.4 and 1.6 litre petrol engines as well as 1.3 and 1.6 litre diesel engines.

The Ford Edge is not a new car, it has been sold successfully in the US and is finally now making its way over to the UK market. As a Luxury SUV the Edge sits above the Kuga and EcoSport in the current Ford range. As with all Ford models the Edge is packed full of technology including; Adaptive Steering, Voice Controls, 8” Colour Touch Screen, Ford Emergency Assist, Intelligent All Wheel Drive, Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring and the list goes on! The Edge will rival the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 and aims to gain the edge through being a slightly more budget friendly alternative. The engine offered is a 2.0 litre diesel engine with either 188bhp or 207bhp with the usual range of trims from the entry level Trend to the top range Titanium.

The F-Pace is the first ever SUV offering from Jaguar. Jaguar has declared the F-Pace has the DNA of a sports car making it a practical sports car for everyday use. On offer is an efficient 2.0 litre 4 cylinder 180ps Turbocharged diesel engine that can achieve 57.7 mpg up to the 3.0 litre Supercharged V6 petrol engine that climbs from 0-62mph in a speedy 5.1 seconds. Of course the F-Pace is a Jaguar so expect luxury as standard!

While nobody has been looking the Smart ForTwo has been quietly gaining sales with over 220,000 sold across the world. The updated version for 2016 has a new 3 layer fabric roof that keeps noise from the road and wind to a minimum. The roof is now operated electrically in an impressive 12 seconds. What’s even more impressive is that the roof will operate in speeds up to 96mph … not even the roof on the convertible Evoque can do that! Even though it’s the smallest convertible currently on the market, the Smart ForTwo provides massive fuel efficiency with an impressive 67.3 mpg and it’s a dream for parking around town.

As the thirst for an SUV shows no sign of slowing down MG are making sure they get their slice of the action too with the GS. To fit in with the existing MG range, styling cues from the MG3 supermini and MG6 can be seen. The GS is at the larger end of the scale compared to other SUVs with a similar size to the Kia Sportage and Honda CR-V. To make sure the GS get noticed in an increasingly crowded market it will be priced below its main rivals to provide an attractive and cheaper alternative.

Watch out the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo there is a new hatchback coming to the UK market! The Suzuki Baleno’s selling point will be practicality. It has all the standard equipment we have come to expect including sat nav and air conditioning. The boot space is impressive, it is larger than both the Fiesta and the Polo and the Baleno is lighter at 905kg. A choice of 2 petrol engines will be available, a 1.2 litre or 1.0 litre 3 cylinder Boosterjet, there will be no diesel version. If you want a spacious and good value supermini the Suzuki Baleno coud be the one for you!
Whether you need the tiniest convertible or the most luxurious SUV this year there's plenty to choose from!
