The New Mercedes-Benz AMG CLA A35 Has Been Revealed!
The new Mercedes-Benz AMG CLA A35 soars beyond any other AMG model, in terms of speed and performance …
The new Mercedes-Benz AMG CLA A35 was revealed at the 2019 New York Motor Show. It is the newest member to the AMG A35 family, alongside the new A35 hatch and saloon. Like the A35 hatch and saloon, the AMG CLA A35 was designed to compete against rivals like the Volkswagen Golf R and Honda Civic type R.
Mercedes-Benz AMG CLA A35 exterior features
Styling-wise, it’s clear where the AMG CLA A35 gets its handsome, sleek and stylish looks from. Up-front, it follows a near identical design to the A35 hatch and saloon.
However, since it’s a four-door coupe, it has a longer bonnet, along with two powerdomes that make it look more prominent and sporty, a new double-louvre grille, frameless windows, a lower sloping roofline, a sporty rear bumper, twin exhaust pipes and a longer, more curved boot. 18-inch alloy wheels come as standard, while buyers can opt for 19-inch alloys as an optional extra.
Interior features and technology in the new Mercedes-Benz AMG CLA A35
It wouldn’t be classified as an AMG car without its traditional, highly innovative Mercedes-Benz MBUX operating system which uses Apple Siri to comply with voice commands like “Hey Mercedes, adjust the heating... “ or “ Hey Mercedes, change the GPS destination to … “- not to mention the standard digital instruments and wide 10.25-inch touchscreen multimedia display that sits nicely right on top of the dash.
The MBUX interior assistant has an abundance of new gesture controls for all passengers to explore. For instance - signal a v-finger gesture just in front of the center console and your pre-programmed favourites will appear. The system is also designed to distinguish between passengers and driver’s hands and bring up each person's favourite functions.
Buyers can select from 3 AMG displays: ‘Classic’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Supersport’ for the instrument cluster. ‘Supersport’ is a standout feature because it introduces AMG-specific data. This enables the driver to access a multitude of special displays such as Warm-up, Set-up, G-Force and Engine data, all through the AMG menu.
In addition to interior, buyers will also get a flat-bottomed multifunction AMG steering wheel, turbine-style air vents, ambient lighting set up with a selection of 64-colour options, a pair of leather-and-microfibre sports seats and red seat belts. Voice activation comes as standard, as well as a 360-degree camera. For an extra cost, buyers can have a small screen added to their steering wheel, just so they can view and alternate between drive select modes. You can also opt for a two-tone cabin layout, like a combination of black and red or black and digital grey.
An additional option for the CLA 35 is the AMG Track Pace Data Logger. It permanently records 80 parameters such as speed, acceleration and G-force and, if you’re into drag races and you like to take it on track, it can record lap and sector times. The Track Pace Data Logger allows you to access the data and see where you can improve your performance.
"The CLA 35 4Matic is an attractive offer for a young, active lifestyle target group..."
"These customers define their requirements very clearly: they expect exciting design alongside superior performance and inspiring handling.” - Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers.
Mercedes-Benz AMG CLA A35 engines
It uses the same engine fitted to the CLA 250, but it’s powered via a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a standard four-wheel drive system to produce 306hp and 400Nm of instant torque at 3000rpm. The four-wheel drive system can send 50% of power to the back wheels, electronically.
It’ll be connected to a seven-speed DCT dual-clutch gearbox only; no manual gearbox will be offered at launch. It is capable of reaching 0-62mph in 4.8 secs, and claims an electronically limited top speed of 115mph. As for fuel economy, the CLA 35 returns 39.92mpg and 164g/km - which is more than the A35 hatch.
Driving modes of the new Mercedes-Benz AMG CLA A35 ?
The new AMG CLA A35 comes with 5 customisable drive modes: Comfort, Sport, Sport +, Individual settings and a new mode called ‘Slippery’. When selected in Slippery mode, the car automatically has improved stability, enabling it to cope better in slippery and icy conditions.
Pricing for the new Mercedes-Benz AMG CLA A35 are yet to released, but we will be updating this blog as soon as sales figures are official. One bit of news we can tell you however is that UK deliveries are expected to get underway in August.
