Safest Cars in 2018

Safest Cars in 2018

We all know the roads can be a dangerous place to be, whether we are a driver, passenger, cyclist or a pedestrian. Thankfully cars are making use of clever technology to help prevent or reduce the severity of accidents.

If you are choosing your next car with safety in mind the European New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) is an invaluable resource for you. NCAP provide independent safety testing of vehicles in four different areas;

  1. Adult Occupant Protection - these tests consider the safety of adults in the front of the car in various crash simulations.
  2. Child Occupant Protection - these tests will also assess the range of child restraint systems the vehicle can accommodate.
  3. Vulnerable Road User Protection - these tests involve considering factors such as whether the bonnet has a crumple zone, that will help reduce injury in the event of a collision.
  4. Safety Assistance - all of the most important driver assistance technologies will be looked at in this section.

The scores received in each category then produce a star rating. 5* is the highest rating a car can achieve, the more stars the safer the cars. Euro NCAP may test two versions of the same car, the standard version and the safety pack version, so the same vehicle may end up with two different star ratings. Below we look at cars which have all received a 5* rating for the standard version since the beginning of 2017 ...
