City Car - Fiat 500
The Fiat 500 is the most fashionable choice for a city car. It's retro quirky style makes it eye catching on the road and the vast array of customisation possible mean you rarely ever see two 500s that look the same.
It's tiny proportions make it easy to park and manoeuvre around town.
Engines - There are 5 engines available, all are petrol. The best fuel efficiency can be found in the 0.9 TwinAir dualogic which can produce 74.3mpg (combined) and only 88g/km of Co2.
Trim Levels - There are 5 main trim levels available; Pop, Pop Star, Lounge, 500s and Mirror. Various limited and anniversary editions are added to this line up. At Pop level features are basic, you will need to upgrade all the way to Lounge to gain a 5" touchscreen, DAB radio, USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth.
Hatchback - Ford Fiesta
The Ford Fiesta is still holding onto its title as the best-selling car in the UK and 2017 saw our favourite get even better with a major technology update and smooth, sleek exterior. Inside the Fiesta the dash has been cleared of most of its buttons and dials with controls now being operated through a central infotainment screen. The range of technology available has been increased to include features such as Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and Pre-Collision Assist. During the update the Fiesta grew a little bit now offering more leg space for rear passengers and an increase in boot space to 292 litres in the 3dr version and 303 litres in the 5dr version.
Engines - There are 3 main engines available. The 1.1 Ti-VCT in 70PS or 85PS is a more entry level engine. The Diesel engine available is the 1.5 Duratorq TDCi with a choice of 85PS or 120PS. The 85PS version has the most mpg on offer at 88.3 (combined) as well as the lowest Co2 emissions of 82g/km.
The most fun engines are the 1.0 EcoBoost engines with a choice of 100PS, 125PS or 140PS, all these engines are turbocharged making your 1.0 litre engine feel a lot bigger.
Trim Levels - There are 8 main trim levels from the entry level Style through Zetec, Titanium, Titanium X, ST-Line, ST-Line X and the most luxurious Vignale. Also on offer are the B&O Play versions of the Ford Fiesta on Zetec and Titanium models. The B&O versions include exclusive colours and high performance sound system.
Hot Hatch - MINI Hatch John Cooper Works
The MINI John Cooper Works is Motor Sport inspired, the fastest MINI there is with the same exhilarating go-kart feel shared by the entire MINI family. There is only a 3dr version available with enough space to seat 4.
As standard you will find features such as 17" alloy wheels, Bluetooth and Cruise Control. With endless options to choose from you can customise your MINI to be exactly what you want.
Engine - There is no choice to be made here, the only engine available is a 2.0 litre petrol with Co2 emissions of 147g/km and combined mpg of 42.8.
Performance - The fastest of the MINIs will travel 0-62mph in only 6.3 seconds producing a top speed of 153mph with 320 Nm of torque and 231 HP.
Saloon - Mercedes-Benz C Class
The Mercedes-Benz C Class is a perfect family or business car with enough space to seat 5 comfortably and plenty of badge appeal. With a Mercedes-Benz you are guaranteed high end luxury, cutting edge technology and the most innovative safety features.
Engines - The current engine line up comprises of the C200d with 160HP or C220d with 194HP. The C200d is the most frugal of all the combustion engines with 72.4mpg(combined) and Co2 emissions of 101g/km. The petrol versions are the C200 with 184HP or the C300 with 258HP. Performance engines are available in the AMG range. The C300h hybrid is now available with 78.4mpg (combined) and only 94g/km Co2.
Trims - There are 4 main trim levels SE, SE Executive, Sport and AMG Line.
Even at the entry level SE trim there is a wide range of standard equipment included such as reversing camera, SPEEDTRONIC cruise control, DAB, Collision Prevention Assist Plus, 16" alloy wheels, Driving Modes and an electric parking brake.
Coupe - BMW 4 Series
The BMW 4 Series coupe has a wide stance, sloping roofline and athletic appearance. It has a low centre of gravity and perfect 50:50 weight distribution. A subtle update during 2017 has ensured the 4 series remains fresh faced for 2018. There is enough space for 4 adults and a large boot capacity of 445 litres.
Engines - There are 3 petrol engines and 3 diesel to pick from. The petrol engines begin with the 420i with 184HP and the highest mpg of 46.3(combined) and the lowest Co2 emissions of 134g/km. The other petrol engines are the 430i with 252hp and the most powerful 440i with 326hp and a 0-32mph time of only 5 seconds. There are also 3 diesel engines the 420d with 190hp, the highest mpg figure of 58.9 (combined) and lowest Co2 emissions of 127g/km. Next is the 430d with 258hp and finally the most powerful 435d with 313hp and a 0-62mph time of 4.7 seconds. xDrive is available on the higher power engines.
Trims - There is a simple choice of 2 trims, Sport or M Sport. M Sport gains extra aerodynamic body styling for the most sporty feel, but the standard equipment for the Sport version is impressive including 18" alloy wheels, LED headlights and heated seats.
Convertible - Jaguar F-Type
It may not be the most affordable of all the convertibles, but the Rivervale team think the F-Type is the most beautiful, with long flowing lines providing a reminder of the E-Type. The fabric roof opens automatically and has a Thinsulate layer to ensure it's waterproof for use all year round.
Engines - Only petrol engines are available. The range begins with the i4 2.0 litre engine with 300ps and 400Nm of torque. This engine is the most kind to the environment with 168g/km of Co2 emitted. The mid range engine is a V6 3.0 litre engine with a choice of 340ps or 380ps, a maximum torque of 460Nm and a 0-60mph time of 4.8 seconds. The most powerful engine is the 5 litre V8 with 550ps or 575ps producing 700Nm of torque and a 0-60mph of only 3.5 seconds.
Trims - There are 4 variations to choose from. The standard F-type, F-type R-Dynamic, F-Type R and the SVR. At the top of the range you end up with additional features such as 20" alloy wheels, a 10" infotainment touchscreen, Xenon headlights and a deployable boot lid spoiler.
Estate - Skoda Octavia
The Octavia Estate is the proud recipient of the Auto Express Award for Best Estate Car 2017. It's perfect for those who need space whether that's for golf clubs or pushchairs. The boot space stands at 610 litres which can be increased to 1740 litres with the rear seats folded down. Along with all the extra space is state of the art technology and advanced driver assistance systems as standard.
Engines - There is a wide choice on offer. The 4 petrol engines available are a 1.0 TSI with 115ps, 1.4 TSI (150ps), 1.5 TSI (150ps) and the most powerful 2.0 TSI with an option to produce 245ps. This engine reaches a top speed of 155mph and has a 0-62mph time of 6.7 seconds. There are 2 diesel engines. The 1.6 TDi 115ps has the lowest Co2 emissions at 103g/km and the highest mpg at 72.4(combined). The final engine is the 2.0 TDi with 150ps which also comes with a 4x4 option.
Trims - There is something to suit everyone with a choice of 7 Skoda Estate models. The entry level S has many advanced features as standard such as SmartLink Connectivity, Bluetooth, automatic post collision braking system and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The top of the range vRS models include full LED headlights, privacy glass and sport seats.
SUV - Nissan Qashqai
The Nissan Qashqai was one of the first SUVs on the scene back in 2007, when the UK's love affair with the crossover vehicle began. Since then almost every other manufacturer has created their own SUV to compete for their share of the market. Despite the choice now available, the Qashqai is still the best-selling SUV in the UK and is the only one consistently in the top 10 cars sold year after year. Part of the reason for this success is the amazing value for money the Qashqai provides. It had an update in 2017, providing a fresh look and improved technology.
Engines - You can choose from 2 petrol engines, the DiG-T 115 and the most powerful engine the DiG-T 163. There are also 2 diesel engines, the dci 110 is the most cost efficient with 74.3mpg and Co2 emissions of only 99g/km. The second diesel engine is the dci 130 which has a 4x4 option for those who are facing challenging terrains.
Trims - A total of 5 trim levels ensure there is an option across a range of budgets. The entry level Visia includes cruise control, Bluetooth and DAB radio as standard. The top of the range Tekna+ adds features such as a panoramic roof and 18" alloy wheels.
MPV - Ford Galaxy
The Ford Galaxy is a popular choice for a larger family, with 7 adult sized seats available to use and low running costs thanks to Ford's EcoBoost engines.With all the seats in an upright position the Galaxy can offer 308 litres of boot space,
but with all the rear seats down, there is a massive 2325 litres of space with a loading area 2.1 metres long.
Engines - The petrol options are the 1.5 litre EcoBoost with 160ps or the 2.0 litre EcoBoost with 240ps. For diesel drivers there is a 2.0 litre TDCi with a choice of 120ps, 150ps, 180ps or 210ps. The most frugal of all the engines is the 2.0 litre TDCi 120ps which can achieve up to 56.5mpg with the lowest Co2 emissions in the range of 129g/km.
Trims - 3 variations are available; Zetec, Titanium and Titanium X. You will find QuickClear heated windscreen, front & rear parking sensors as well as cruise control as standard on all Galaxys.
4x4 Range Rover
The original and the best! The Range Rover really is a car for every journey. It can be both the ultimate in luxury, and perfectly at home wading through water 900mm deep.
Engines - There are 2 diesel engines to choose from. The TDV6 3.0 litre engine produces 258hp and is the most fuel efficient achieving 40.9mpg. The second option is the SDV8 4.4 litre engine which has 339hp and 740Nm of torque. There are 2 petrol versions the V6 3.0 litre 340hp with 450Nm of torque or the V8 5.0 litre with either 525hp or 656hp capable of reaching a top speed of 155mph and covering 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds. The hybrid 2.0 P400e has now joined the range with 91.1mpg (combined) and only 64g/km Co2.
Trims - 5 are available; Vogue, Vogue SE, Autobiography, SVAutobiography Dynamic and the SVAutobiography Long Wheelbase. The range starts at a seriously luxury place and becomes steadily more lavish!
