The New Volvo XC90 for 2015
Volvo believe their new XC90 will be the safest, most high tech and economical SUV available. We know the new XC90 will be longer, taller and lower than the last model with a new grille and T shaped LED daytime lights.
The new XC90 is simplifying the cabin as most of the buttons and dials have been replaced with a touchscreen, making a fuss free dashboard. The interior is dominated with wood and leather with special features such as a crystal glass gear lever.
An exciting first is Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture – a new platform which all future Volvo models are thought to be adopting. This lightweight structure is thought to be stronger and safer than previous platforms while also increasing passenger space adding extra comfort.
There is a new range of efficient engines from the Drive-E family. All engines will be 2.0 litre with 4 cylinder designs and a new Hybrid will be available that combines a 2.0 litre petrol engine with an electric motor. This is the most efficient of models and only produces CO2 emissions of 60g/km.
There are more firsts from Volvo in this model and it comes as no surprise Volvo are making advances in safety. There are two firsts in the safety world on offer in the XC90. Firstly there is Run off Road Protection which senses if you are leaving the road and heading for rough terrain. If this happens the XC90 will tighten the seatbelts for you and activate energy absorbing technology in the seats themselves to prevent injury. Secondly, the Auto-braking System available that will brake if you try on pull out into oncoming traffic to prevent crashes at junctions. Alongside these new systems Volvo will also be offering pre-crash protection, whiplash protection, blind spot information and road sign reading capabilities to keep you safe on your journey. This all helps Volvo on their way to their vision, that states by 2020 no Volvo driver should be seriously injured or killed when in one of their vehicles.
There is technology galore in the XC90, firstly Volvo say the XC90 will be able to follow the car in front at a safe distance in stop/start traffic automatically as their nod to the new autonomous driving technology that is gaining in popularity. The new XC90 will also feature Volvo OnCall which will allow you to lock or unlock your car, find your car and set the temperature inside at the touch of a button. The XC90 will also be equipped with CarPlay and Andriod Auto so can sync perfectly with your phone.
If all this wasn’t exciting enough Volvo are releasing a special limited edition. There will be 1,927 first edition models available, as this corresponds to the date Volvo began. All of the special editions will be in Onyx black with special numbered tread plates and a distinctive rear mounted badge. Inside will be amber coloured Nappa leather with a charcoal leather dashboard containing walnut inlays. This special edition will be available to order from the 3rd September. The all new Volvo XC90 will be on sale by spring 2015, initially with just the all-wheel drive model available, a front wheel drive model should be available from September 2015.
