The Winners Revealed – The What Car Awards!
The bonnets were polished and the windscreens smear free as the What Car? awards were handed out. The awards are held in association with Warranty Direct and only the best will win their category as stringent testing is applied. So who came out on top? …….
Best City Car – is decided by looking at running costs, being small enough to park anywhere yet still able to cope with longer motorway journeys and the winner is ….. The Hyundai i10 1.2 Premium
Best Convertible Car – decisions here are based on a quick roof mechanism that stows away without encroaching on boot space too much, it should be comfortable for 4 and cope well with bumps in the road – the winner for 2015 was the Audi A3 cabriolet 1.4 TFSI 150 Sport.
Best Coupe – for coupe’s looks are important but so is practicality as they are often used as day to day cars. The best for 2015 ….. Audi TT 2.0 TFSI Sport.
Best Electric Car - electric cars are becoming more and more popular and the main criteria they are judges on for the awards is range! Anything that eases the worry of being stranded without charge on a journey wins points with the judges and the winner this year was the Audi A3 e-tron.
Best Estate Car – judges are looking for clever use of space, value for money and great safety features. The best car this year was …..the Ford Mondeo Estate 1.6 TDCi I20 Econetic Zetec.
Best Family Car – here practicality and versatility are the most important features with enough room for children pets and luggage! The winner this year was the Skoda Octavia 1.2 TSI SE.
Best Large SUV – space and safety are the top priorities here and the winner with both is the Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE.
Best Sports Car – here fun and looks are everything, but the judges have also considered the finances so the winner here is the Porsche Boxster 2.7.
Best MPV – the winner of this category is spacious and versatile with different seat configurations possible and with the all important safety equipment – the winner this year is the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso 1.6 e-HDi 115 Exclusive.
Best Small Car – Most important here are value for money when buying and running the car as well as being equipped with the latest safety features the winner in this category is the Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSI 90 SE
Best Executive Car – here comfort is the main priority as well as low running costs including fuel economy, company car tax and leasing costs. The best in this category is the BMW 520d SE Automatic.
Best Hot Hatch – being fun to drive and also practical enough for day to day life, with reasonable running costs and good safety measures are important so the winner here is the Ford Fiesta ST-2.
Best Luxury Car – A very comfortable, very smooth and very quiet car is what is needed here and the winner is the Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec LSE Line.
Best Small SUV – small SUV are the alternative family car so must have excellent safety features, low running costs, be spacious and practical as well as coping with small town trips and longer motorway journeys. WhatCar? decided last years car of the year deserved this award – the Nissan Qasqai 1.5 dci 110 N-tec 2wd
For the safety award this year all the contenders must a 5* rating and autonomous emergency braking giving them the highest possible safety rating – WhatCar? Announced the Land rover Discovery Sport so if safety is your main concern this is the car for you!
The Reader Award that reveals the car the public are most looking forward to went this year to the Honda HR-V which will be available here in the late spring.
And now the overall winner ……..the best of the best the Car of the Year for 2015 is the Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSI 90 SE for its excellent space and economical engines.
