The secret to a happy relationship is … a long drive!
For all those maddened by their marriage, resentful about their relationship or outraged by their other half the answer is simple … all you need to do is go for a long drive!
This is the news according to webuyanycar.com. They questioned nearly 3,000 motorists who travel regularly with another person to uncover what we do to while the hours away. Here’s what they found:-
The most popular talking point in the car according to 95% of respondents was … other people! We most love to gossip about other family members, our friends and really anyone else we know!
Next, reported by 92% of those questioned, were big plans such as holidays, house plans and future car purchases.
A massive 62% of those questioned believed the time spent in the car gave them the opportunity to discuss their relationship. With nowhere to run, no ringing phone to answer or any knocks at the door, the car seems the perfect place for the ‘where are we going’ chat!
It seems like there is a very fine balance between a relationship talk in the car that brings a couple closer together and a chat that can lead to complete couple chaos as 59% of those questioned admitted arguments can sometimes start in the car.
There are a few gender differences in what we get up to in the car with 82% of women liking to have a sing song compared to 67% of men. It seems feelings of love also occur in the car with 53% of men and 43% of women saying they like to get romantic in the car!
I quizzed the Rivervale Team about in which cars they would most like to go on a long drive with their loved ones, they all agreed the car needed to be automatic, have cruise control and heated seats, so here are Rivervale’s recommendations for a long drive….
In the top spot with 55% of the Rivervale vote is the supremely comfortable Mercedes S Class …

With 35% of the vote the Range Rover Sport was the next popular option in the Rivervale office due to its space and higher driving position …
Business contract hire £618.85 + VAT per month Initial rental: £3713.10 + VAT
Personal contract hire £742.62 per month Initial rental: £4455.72
In last place with 10% of the vote was the convertible Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG …
Business contract hire £1715.84 + VAT per month Initial rental: £5147.52 + VAT
Personal contract hire £2059.01 per month Initial rental: £6177.03
One member of staff chose a convertible to add some excitement to the relationship, talking about a long drive through country roads and picnics – all very nice! Another member of the Rivervale Team told me a convertible would be ideal because the noise with the roof down means they wouldn’t hear their other half talking! Tut, tut, tut!
I didn’t share the views of the rest of the Rivervale Team. I thought to discuss important plans and your relationship you should think smart and jump into a Smart car!
- It’s highly economical, so this should reduce arguments about overspending!
- It has cruise control, lane keep assist and heated front seats to keep you comfortable.
- It has DAB digital radio so that 82% of women can have a good sing!
- Its more spacious than you would think, I promise, we tested it …
