The outside of the GLE Coupe features a sweeping, coupe-like roofline and rides on large alloy wheels. The standard GLE gets 20-inch alloy wheels, while 21 or even 22-inch alloys come as optional. In terms of dimensions, the GLE Coupe is 1731mm tall (29mm taller than the X6) and rides on a 2,915mm wheelbase.

There are 6 standard exterior colours to choose from: Polar white, obsidian black, brilliant blue, iridium silver, selenite grey and cavansite blue. If you don’t fancy any of those colours, there are two other options which you can get for an added cost: designo diamond white bright and designo hyacinth red bright.

Inside, the GLE Coupe is a large and spacious car that is packed with a range of advanced technology. The front seats are electronically adjustable so finding your preferred seating position is super easy. Four-way electric lumbar adjustment is standard across the range. The interior seats of the GLE Coupe offers enough space for two tall adults to sit comfortably in the front seats. The same can be said for passengers sitting in the rear seats behind them. Originally designed as a 5 seater, the GLE Coupe has a boot that yields 650 litres of boot space - 70 more than the BMW X6. If you want more boot space, the rear seats can be folded to increase that space to 1,720 litres.

Mercedes’ impressive Comand infotainment system is also standard and features an 8-inch multimedia touch screen display that is within the driver’s reach and easy to operate. ‘Mercedes Me Connect’, the app that enables you to connect your car to your mobile device, tablet or desktop. It provides you with access to multiple services that will drastically improve your driving experience. Standard services are as follows;

Emergency call - If you’ve been involved in a car collision, this feature will share your location and status for an immediate response from the emergency services
Accident & Breakdown recovery - Allows you to press a single button for fast breakdown recovery
Telediagnostics - Automatically detects and shares information of any vehicle wear and tear with you, and shares the information collected with the retailer

The GLE Coupe’s Sports-Direct Steer allows greater directional ability on twisty roads, while the optional ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM improves speed cornering ability. Other features to enhance comfort and convenience include; leatherette upholstery front-seat heating, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power liftgate, Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple Car Play, Dual USB ports, a smart key system with push-button engine start, voice control and Harman and Kardon surround sound system with an in-dash CD/DVD player and SD card reader.

Mercedes GLE engines and driving modes

There are three engines on offer for UK buyers (one diesel and two petrol engines). The GLE 350 d 4MATIC Night Edition is powered by a six-cylinder diesel engine that delivers 258hp (190kW). The AMG GLE 43 4MATIC Night Edition gets a six-cylinder 3.0-litre petrol engine producing 390hp (287 kW) and 500Nm of instant torque and is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The range-topping GLE 63 S 4MATIC Night Edition comes with a 577bhp 5.5-litre V8 engine which is tuned to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The fastest and most powerful choice is the GLE 63 S which can go from 0-60mph in as little as 4.1 seconds.

The four AMG Dynamic Select Driving modes i.e. “comfort”, “Sport”, “Individual” and “Slippery” allows you to pick a driving mode to suit the terrain you’re in, whether that’s off-road on rough, rocky terrain or on-road during wet/wintry conditions. Each DYNAMIC SELECT mode will adapt throttle response, transmission shift points and handling to suit your driving style. Comfort mode is perhaps the most balanced out of all four modes, while Sport mode is better for going round corners in the road. Switching between driver modes is seamless via the DYNAMIC SELECT button located on the center console in the middle of the dash. This will automatically appear on the digital cluster and Comand touchscreen display when you switch driver modes.
