The Brand New Range Rover Velar
This new edition to the Range Rover family was revealed at a VIP event at the Design Museum in Kensington. The Range Rover Velar has been named after the original prototype and is now on sale with prices starting at £44,830.
The new Range Rover Velar will sit in between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport. It has been designed here in Britain and will be built exclusively right here in Range Rover’s Solihull factory. Our Marketing Manager Bud, takes you on a tour ...
Outside Features of the Range Rover Velar
On the outside the Velar is instantly recognisable as a Land Rover with the now familiar floating roof. The body design focuses on simplicity and sleek lines with even the door handles sitting flush, deployable when needed. Alloy wheel size depends upon the model selected with a range from 18” all the way up to 22”.
Interior Features of the Range Rover Velar
On the inside are two 10” high definition touchscreens that remove the need for any clutter of switches or buttons on the dash helping to create the calm, serene cabin atmosphere Range Rover were trying to create with the Velar and mirroring the simplicity of the exterior. Materials used are high quality with perforated grained or Windsor leather on the seats and carbon fibre with copper wire weave finishing the trims.
The Velar has four zone climate control to keep everyone comfortable and in the rear seats you can choose to have two 8” screens to play movies and watch digital television. Each monitor has 2 USB ports, 1 HDMI and a mobile high definition link to support most smartphones and tablets. Rear seat entertainment comes complete with 2 sets of wireless headphones and a wireless remote control, leaving any little ones entertained while you enjoy driving! In the front are individual sliding armrests for the passenger and driver to find their own comfortable seated position, configurable mood lighting and heated seats.
Which Engines are Available on the Range Rover Velar?
There are currently 3 diesel engines and 2 petrol engines available. These provide All Wheel Drive and all are fitted with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel engines begin with the D180 a 2 litre, 4-cylinder 180PS turbocharged diesel engine with a top speed of 150 mph, a 0-60 mph time of 8.4 seconds. CO2 emissions are 142g/km with a combined maximum fuel efficiency of 52.5mpg. This engine provides the lowest emissions and maximum mpg of any engine offered in the Velar … but even though an 8.4 second 0-60 time is impressive, it’s also the slowest of the range. The diesel range offers the D240 and the most powerful D300 which has a max speed of 150 mph, 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds and combined mph of 44.1 mpg.
There are currently only 2 petrol engines available. The P250 is the most efficient petrol engine with a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder 250PS turbocharged engine with a max speed of 135 mph and 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds. CO2 levels are higher than any of the diesel options at 173 g/km and 37.2 mpg (combined) can be achieved. The most powerful petrol engine is the fastest of the Velar range. The P380 has a 3.0 litre V6 380PS supercharged engine with a max speed of 155 mph and a 0-60 time of 5.3 seconds. However, all this power does mean CO2 levels are high a 214 g/km and you may need frequent trips to the petrol station with a combined mpg of 30.1. A further 300hp petrol engine is due to be added later this year to sit between the existing two.
Safety Features and Driver Aids
Across the Velar range autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, rear parking aid and cruise control with speed limiter driving aids all come as standard. To make sure Land Rover remain the most capable, safe, off-road vehicles a wealth of performance and safety features come to the Velar as standard including; electronic air suspension, low traction launch, hill descent control, advanced tow assist, terrain response, gradient release control, cornering brake control, roll stability control and electronic traction control to name just a few!

As with almost any appliance now, the Range Rover Velar can be monitored via an app from your smartphone or smart watch, allowing the engine to be started remotely to pre-condition the climate, the doors to be locked or opened and your Velar to be located on a map. Drivers who are always losing their key or are particularly active can opt to have an Activity Key. The Activity Key is a robust and completely waterproof band to be worn around the wrist allowing users to swim, cycle or complete any activity without the need to carry their key fob.
Admirably, Land Rover are also appealing to vegetarian buyers, or those who prefer cloth seats, with the Velar by offering a leather free interior option. Range Rover worked with leading European textile manufacturer Kvadrat made using a wool blend and a suedecloth created from recycled materials such as plastic bottles.
Here at Rivervale Car Leasing we are in no doubt that the Velar will be in hot demand, and may even steal a few customers away from the Porsche Macan, Jaguar F-Pace and Audi Q5.
